SUMMER OF
ANIMAL RISING

In the Spring of 2023 we launched Animal Rising with our boldest action yet: more than 100 people aiming to halt the Grand National, the UK's  largest horse racing event.

Our intervention achieved 9 front-pages and hours of broadcast air-time, all shining a spotlight on our broken relationship with animals and nature.

But we weren't done there, as we disrupted three more horse racing events, occupied an intensive dairy farm,  rescued three sheep from the King's land, demonstrated outside half of the UK's remaining greyhound racetracks and dropped a banner at the Greyhound Derby Final.

ANIMAL TESTING
ON TRIAL

In June of 2022 we first occupied MBR Acres, a facility in Cambridgeshire that breeds more than 2,000 beagle puppies each year for use in the testing industry.

Over two separate rescues, we successfully helped 23 beagle puppies to freedom. These lucky individuals are now living full, fulfilling lives where they are free to play, love, and be loved.

Sadly, during the second rescue, the police captured two of the puppies - Love & Libby - and returned them to MBR.

The brave individuals involved in both rescues voluntarily handed themselves in to the police with the intention of putting animal testing on trial. 22 individuals from the second rescue have been charged.

A not-guilty verdict for the rescuers from a jury of 12 of their peers would send a resounding message that the UK will no longer stand for the unnecessary practice of testing on animals.

The testing industry, however, is rich and powerful. They will do all they can to find us guilty so we need your support to ensure we have access to the best legal expertise money can buy.

PLANT-BASED
FUTURE

United in the call for a Plant-Based Future, more than 100 individuals voluntarily - and repeatedly - risked arrest blockading dairy distribution centres across the UK.

Those involved successfully stopped the supply of milk to supermarkets across the South of England.

These disruptions were preceded and followed by high-profile protests at the Trooping the Colour Jubilee ceremony; the spray-painting of Big Ben white; and milk-spills in the aisles of high-end supermarkets like Harrods.

McDONALDS
BLOCKADE

Fresh out of multiple Covid-related lockdowns, we decided to implement one of our own.

On 22nd May, 2021, over 50 people blockaded all four of the UK's McDonald's distribution centres, shutting down their operations for more than 24 hours and closing multiple stores.

We went again in July, blockading their sole meat-processing facility in Scunthorpe over an entire weekend.

And finally, in August, another 50 individuals occupied their flagship London store in Leicester Square.

ANIMAL
REBELLION LAUNCH

In June of 2019, Animal Rebellion was formed. We launched with 10,000 people at the Animal Rights march that year and, in partnership with Extinction Rebellion, joined the October International Rebellion with an occupation at Smithfields, Europe's largest and oldest meat market.

We successfully brought the destructive nature of animal farming and fishing into the mainstream climate conversation.

With further occupations and blockades, the scaling of government buildings, and by dying fountains red, we made our call for a plant-based food system unignorable.
